Journalistic Writing: The subject-verb-object approach
Course description:

The objective of this course is to give students a grounding on key journalistic tasks with the aim to develop their ability to research material and understand the principles that lead to well written news and feature stories. This course will help students to aquire a precise and explicit writing style and to present the information in terms of relative importance, tone and intended audience.
This course may appeal to social communication students or any other students who seek to acquire journalistic skills.
This course is divided into four modules:
- Module 1: Sub-editing (e.g. headlines, text editing, proof-reading)
- Module 2: Research and interviewing skills
- Module 3: News-writing – the “inverted pyramid”
- Module 4: Feature writing
For the final assignment of this course students will have to produce a 1,500 to 2,000 word feature article on a subject approved by the lecturer or a profile of an interesting person.
