English for Careers and Business Planning

This course can help you!!!!

  • Do you want to get prepared for the world of work ?
  • Would you like to start your own business one day?
  • Are you planning to study abroad?
  • Are you interested in working abroad – or working for a company that does business internationally?
  • Does social enterprise interest you?
  • Do you need to prepare for the graduation exam?
  • Or do you just want to practice your english?

There are two parts to the course:

1. Business / Careers English:
The course is focussed on helping you into the world of work and business. The program will include theory and practice in the following

  • Business vocabulary
  • Doing business: role plays – closing deals, getting investment, business advice
  • Job searches / applications and interviews – using authentic job search websites
  • Office life – activities derived from the BBC’s award winning comedy series “The Office” to reflect the politics, boredom, fun and, oh yes, work of the modern day office.
  • Social Enterprise -how to make money and save the world at the same time

2. Business Planning:
Have you ever thought of running your own business? This could be anything from a law firm to fashion design to freelance art. If you want to go it alone this course could help you to get started. Even if you are not interested in running your own business, much of the methodology and language involved in business planning is useful in many professions and academia.

The ultimate aim of the class is to write a business plan; a thorough, persuasive document which investigates and explains how your business could work. You will do real world research, analysing your products, competitors, marketing strategy, profit margins, environmental policies and everything you will need to reduce risk and make the best start.

Proposed course assessment:

  • Business Plan 30%
  • Business Plan Interview 30%
  • Job application 15%
  • Job Interview 15%
  • Business Operations Exercise 10%

The majority of assessed work will be done in class time.
